I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to the women I admire.  My fundamentalist readers will gasp to learn that they aren’t all Christians.  I admire women for many reasons, and often because of their faith.  However, I also draw inspiration from women for their creativity, benevolence, entrepreneurial spirit and even for their failures.  I think it’s important for women of faith to look outside our normal sphere of influence to consider how women throughout the world can inspire us to take risks and pursue our highest calling. That’s why I’m going to start…

Wednesday’s Woman of the Week

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So, I can think of no better way to kick off our new “Woman of the Week” than to acknowledge my late step-grandmother, Betty Scott.  Grandma Scott battled breast cancer for several years before it finally took her life.  However, in those last years she remained determined and optimistic. She continued to volunteer at her church and spend time with family.  We exchanged hand-written notes regularly.  One of my prized possessions are a set of hand towels she stitched for me.  The stitching gets looser with each towel as she was losing strength.  Yet, she was determined to leave me a token of her love.  Her determination was LOVE in action.

As we pursue Spiritual Wellness, we must remain determined.  Most of us are facing some sort of seemingly insurmountable climb – sickness, financial loss, family trauma.  Regardless of what you’re facing, be determined to stay focused on what really matters.  Keep your eyes on Jesus, and pour love into your family.
