Have you ever felt stuck between a rock and a hard place while trying to follow good intentions? Have you ever had to choose between two good options?  How do you choose?  How do you know which is best?

God’s principles can feel this confusing. It feels like two opposing principles that seem to negate each other.  We’re left debating the real truth.   For instance, are we saved by God’s grace?  Or, are we saved by our faith in God?

My college professor, Dr. Henry Lederle, branded this, “The Elliptical Nature of Truth.” An ellipse is similar to a circle because it is a single continuous line. But where a circle has one focal point, an ellipse has two fixed points that are equal.   Truth often has two focal points that are of equal weight and importance.

Warning: Do not confuse this with a yin-yang. Yin-yang is the view that the opposing forces of good and evil are equal and mutually dependent.  Yin-yang is false.  It is a worldview that is completely inconsistent with Spiritual Wellness.  God is never dependent upon evil.  God is only good.

Spiritual Wellness embraces God’s truth like an ellipse. God’s truth is always good.  His good truth is often upheld by two equally important focal points.  To illustrate, let’s revisit the classic debate regarding salvation.   Spiritual Wellness is being able to say, “I’m saved because of God’s grace for me, and also because of my decision to believe in Him.”

Next time you feel stumped by God’s truth, just think of it as an ellipse. Perhaps both good things are true?  Embrace the totality of the Bible.  Embrace the totality of God’s truth.

Ask God to reveal His truth to you.  What is God saying to you? Share your insights with us.

Next week:  Have you ever heard someone say, “it’s not about you?”  Perhaps this truth is an ellipse.

Rose, so glad to hear you say that God reveals the truth. I think it’s so imperative to our faith practice that we learn to hear God and listen to His truth about every situation. Angie

Often, the feelng of being “caught between a rock and a hard place” seems that either choice taken will somehow cause pain; in the choice not taken or in taintng the choice taken, as one regrets not being able to have taken both routes.

There is really not one road taken and one abandonned if we trust in God’s Grace and allow HIM to let us take both roads together, each in different positive ways.

Yes, we may seem to be taking one over the other and that will be the case if we do not approach the two choices with HIM in our heart.

HE will lead us to find the way to honour both opportunities or relationships if we “listen” to HIM.

The world ‘seems’ to have always choices, one thing to do, all others to be abandonned at the time. I like to think all He made is always here; patience, trust and faith will keep us with all doors open, never closing and locking one in favour of another.

HE will be and will stay at all doors, ready to welcome us when we are there!

    He is Everywhere Loving us!

A good article…finding the right combination of solutions and or options.

In doing so, examining the laws of relativity and through E=mc2 of mass and energy. Transmutable or it’s changeable solutions of working together.

There are way’s to further develop and examine a certain fixed outcome of Thy will…vs. Man’s will. To examine each focal point and it’s fixed solution.

    One last thought!

We speak of being caught between a rock and a hard place and I see that as being between 2 positive opportunities not 2 harsh realities pinning me!

If not 2 positive opportunities it would not be hard to choose? Certainly it will seem that we wish we were not caught not knowing which way to choose but HE knows and HE will be with us as we first resolve one issue and then move on to deal with the other.

We can see many choices mostly negatively and some will be from difficult situations. But we can turn those situations around to something Good in some way. And HE will show us the way if we just ask.

    He is Blessing all, always!
