Moving On

Are you transitioning into a new stage of life?  If so, you may need to empty the past before entering your future. This week I celebrate the end of my three-year tenure at Gateway Church as Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care.  I’m moving on to speaking, writing and launching my new video website.  I’ll also be available to travel with my husband as he works to build the AmericanLife Network and Family Net. What an exciting time for us as a young, married couple!  While this change will be rewarding, it’s also emotionally and spiritually exhausting. I miss what I must leave behind – my work as a pastor. I must be mindful to make time for my heart to release the past.

Only in meditation, can we empty our hearts and hands of the past. Then, we can walk into the future ready to receive all that God has for us. During my own transition, I take moments to reflect with gratitude. I remember the faces of young girls who sat in my office and trusted me with their deepest insecurities and fears. I remember how they heard God’s voice for the first time, how they forgave their parents and discovered their destiny. I remember the leaders I trained to lead recovery groups for hundreds of women. The impact through these women’s lives has been miraculous! As I feel gratitude for all these things, peace settles into my heart.

As we release the past, we also reflect on what we will carry with us into the future. When I reflect on what I will take with me into my future journey, I’m reminded of the inner healing I experienced. At this church, I found the safety and love that I had rarely experienced in church previously. It’s here that I was able to fully explore the limitless power of God through me.

To release the past in preparation for your future, take quiet moments to reflect in solitude. Ask God, “What do you want me to release from the past journey?” And, “What do you want me to carry into the future journey?”

What is God saying to you about change?  Share your thoughts.

Am I right Angie, is it your choice to leave your position as a pastor? Why griefing? You have a new wonderful challange in the future. Smile because you experienced all this great things. God has choosen you to be this pastor. – I never grief when something wonderful is over. I smile because of having the chance to experence it. Not means that you are a bit “wistful”. See we soon will have a beautiful season, Christ is born. Rejoice and be glad in it! – I made a great experience this spring in Beverly Hills with a girl friend, not seeing over 10 years, she expressed me the feeling never beeing sad when a beloved situation is over, smiling about is her moto! She is right! Or when we have been in a bad situation beeing glad that it’s over. – Blessings, Rosemarie

    Angie,
I awoke thinking about you and this particular blog this morning. You continually amaze me with your insight and ability to phrase what you and others are thinking and feeling about specific matters. How wonderful to be granted the challenge of exploring a different direction in your life at this time. Of course, as you mentioned, there is a sadness and grieving process in leaving a place you held dear and you would be remiss if you did not acknowledge it and embrace it. I do hope that counseling, in some form, is a part of your future as you have been granted a very special ability in this area. God clearly has great plans for you and it is exciting that your time will be freed up so that you may accompany Chris in some of his travels. I shall look forward to hearing and reading some of your thoughts and seeing how your future unfolds. You are truly blessed to have so much wisdom and understanding especially for one so young. May God grant you his most bountious favors and “keep you in the palm of his hamd.”

    Yours in Christ,

    Rosanne

I first have to wish you continued great experiences as your journey takes you along a new road! You have done wonderful things in your time at Gateway obviously.

You have no doubt had hard times and your ministry has had you dealing with people, often in traumatic situations, but you have helped and will not be far from people’s thoughts or lips, as they share the times you were there for them!

Your story has come at a good time for my family as one of my daughters has been made an offer to buy her shop, a wonderful artsy, book and card , etc, shop in a trendy positive area of Toronto. My daughter thought I would be upset that she is selling as I financed the store to start 7 years ago.

On the contrary I told her, all the things you were able to do over the past few years; the wonderful friendships with customers that dropped by to chat or buy or get advice on artsy things (that is her forte), the improvements that you made:re-decorating and re-designing the layout of the shop so children and their fmilies as well as the disabled could get a good shopping experience!
That too challenged all the nearby shops to spruce up; the junky merchandise of the prior owner you got rid of in favour of green merchandise! that also influenced others shop owners!

I am really proud of you. And now someone wants to carry on your success, while you want to get back to design as a career. That is great!

Like you Angie, there is a new season for us all and you, like my daughter, can think back on a lot of positives.

For myself just now, I am determined to make this Christmas more spiritual and less busy at the time I want to savour great memories and enjoy Christmas fully; so, my outside lights are up but not lit up yet ( just need to plug the timer in). I have bought most gifts I am giving.

Most importantly I have got into the Mosaic Bible and down loaded the Advent readings and prayers.

Some nice quiet music, the lights will be lit and I can follow the daily readings.

I will wait and anticipate your filling in that “blank” for your next Ministry and I know it will be fantastic!
