Happy New Year!  Are you Ready?  This is the question I ask myself before starting any new goal. I hope you have your goals in place.  If not, it’s time to get started.  Goals serve as milestones on the path to your purpose. So travelers, beware! Every worthwhile goal comes at a price. Before you step-out toward your goal, be sure you’re ready for the challenge.

Perhaps you’re like me? I often feel intimidated by the mountain standing between me and my purpose. I instinctively know that the path to my purpose requires grueling work, unyielding dedication and loads of emotional energy.  To give my goals this type of time and attention, I have to limit life’s amenities. I rework my schedule, spend less time on Facebook and turn down social invitations.

Whenever I remove a familiar amusement, I feel a temporary void. The void that accompanies sacrifice can feel painful and unnerving. For me, this is the truly difficult part. Thankfully, through Spiritual Wellness, I know how to fill the void.

Spiritual Wellness and Your Goals.

Nearly ten years ago, a friend inspired to me to change my physical wellness. I was lethargic, depressed and felt horrible about my self-image. Meanwhile, she was vibrant, confidant and fit. Afterall, she had just lost 80lbs!  When I asked her how she managed to change her life, her answer was simple and strategic, “I was ready.”

And, I realized … so was I. I was ready to face the void of comfort food. I was ready to face the void of endless naps. I knew how to fill the void. I would fill it spiritually.  Whenever I didn’t feel like going to the gym, I reminded myself that I was ready for positive, spiritual change. Whenever I wanted an emotional eating binge, I would ask God to be my comfort and strength.  I lost 30 lbs, plus a ton of emotional baggage. In return, I gained my health, energy and happiness.

Are you ready? Experience tells me that every goal requires sacrifice.  And, where there is sacrifice, there will be a temporary void.   Only Spiritual Wellness will fill the void left behind as you move forward in life. Like air in an empty room, God fits perfectly into all space and time. He will fill the void.  Remember, once you’ve set your goals, be sure to ask yourself, “Am I ready?”  Then jump into your goals with the confidence that God will fill any void.

I am ready, and I am marching forward.

I am taking on the challenge of budget. I am getting one, sticking to it, and not looking back.

I believe that God has me by the hand, and I am depending on the Holy Spirit to guide me as I face this very large challenge.

    Thank you for the post.

To reach our goal we have first to climbe the mountain. Job: Severe Interviewer. – It’s obviousely that we can feel void in our body. – We can get comfort in praying and getting in a dialog withGod/Jesus or going towards a good fried to get comfort. – To reach our goal we should be ready for it and everything we have to do it souldn’t be an anankasm or doing something that ask too much of our brain or physical force. My motto: Take it easy to get to your goal, the place you want to be. – Blessings, Rosemarie

    Angie,

I resonated with this blog because change cannot take place in anyone’s life until they can whole-heartedly state … I AM READY!

This new year brought that determination that “I am ready” to make some changes … physically, emotionally and spiritually.

God called me to a very strict fast to start the new year, one that has definitely caused a big void in me, considering my love for food and the way that I’ve allowed myself to eat over the past 18 months.

Instead of wincing and finding any loop hole I could in God’s request, I felt excited … even if there was a wee bit of trepidation about how my body was going to respond.

I could sense that God had a new plan for my life this year and that taking control of food – instead of allowing it continued control of me – was high on the priority list. And it’s not just about food. It’s about filling the void of eating just to eat with something else, with someone else … Jesus.

I knew He wanted to show me that even though I don’t have a hundred pounds to lose, the 25 that I’ve put on since marriage in 2007 were a sign that I’d become lazy and that laziness didn’t just show up in pounds, it showed up in my mood, my energy, my drive and my outlook on life, which impacted my life as a whole.

I know that this fast is not THE answer to everything because after this is over I will need to make very wise choices about lifestyle changes if I don’t want to see the pounds creep back. But I believe God wants to show me through this fast that food – and the negative effects it can have – is not really what was controlling me … it is the byproduct of what I was trying to cover. And THAT is the most important part of this fasting journey: allowing Him to show me those areas and then surrendering them to Him. THEN food can go back to being yummy and necessary in proportion, but not my comfort and not my excuse.

Wow, I’ve rambled far too much, but I think this response to your blog is actually something God was revealing to me as I was writing. Hmmm…
