Each Christmas, I go hunting for the perfect gift.   I never like to give people gifts that will end up on a dusty shelf or be forgotten by the next day.  I think the key is to give gifts that will enhance someone’s life.  Why not give a gift that will help your loved ones increase their Spiritual Wellness?

These are my top 7 Gift Ideas for Spiritual Wellness:

  1. The Chronological Bible: Like many people, I don’t typically like to receive Bibles as gifts.  They are too personal, plus I already have a bookshelf full of Bibles.  However, The Chronological Bible is different. Because the book is outlined in chronological order, it reads like a story.  When you get to the gospels, you’ll read the same story written four different ways.  My father-in-law compares it to watching the same news story on different channels.  You get various perspectives on the same story.
  2. Fitness Gift Cards: Studies show that gifts cards are the best gift to receive, although they offer less enthusiasm to the giver.  Isn’t giving about the other person any way?  This year, why not give someone a gift card to his or her favorite fitness center, dance class or rock climbing lessons?  Exercise increases our endorphins and makes us feel better about life.  Essentially, it’s like giving the gift of joy.
  3. Green Gifts: You might be feeling a little guilty about all the wasted paper and plastic this time of year.  Ease your guilt by buying green products.  There are some great products that will help the environment while bringing joy to your loved ones.  Plus, by giving green you are reminding your loved ones of something that is very important to you.  Perhaps they will be wiser about the environment because of your influence?
  4. Charitable Donations: I hear this all the time… I don’t know what to get her because she has everything.  If you think someone has everything, they probably think so too.  Instead, contribute to something they really care about – like their favorite charity.  Contributing to a person’s favorite charity, in their name, says:  I support the things that are most important to you!
  5. Memories: I think the best gifts are shared memories.  Many people would prefer your time to your money.  Instead of giving a holiday sweater, take a loved one to coffee or picnic at the park.  If you plan on spending the big bucks, why not plan a weekend trip rather than purchasing a fancy new toy?
  6. Homemade Gifts: As a child, my mom always told me that she preferred homemade presents.  I thought she just felt badly about me spending my allowance on her.  Now, I see what she means.  Rather than buying a label that says “made in China” opt for the “made with love.” There’s lots of homemade gifts that require no crafting ability – photo albums, cookies, music playlists or a video letter to name a few.
  7. Gifts of Learning: Learning something new is great for those who are fascinated and curious.  When we learn something new, it increases the positive receptors in our brain.  We feel happy, hopeful and vibrant.  Gifts of learning come in all shapes and prices –puzzles, magic tricks, cooking classes and language acquisition software programs.

What ideas can you add to our list of Favorite Gifts for Spiritual Wellness?

It might sound a bit cliché but how about as my wife and I have done some years:

FIND A NEED and FILL IT FOR SOMEONE

We think if we can afford a computer and high-speed internet, we should be able to assist someone less fortunate. I know some of us use computers and internet for work and I realize some may have other thoughts but for us the internet is a convenience, fun and useful but not critical ! So along with your great suggestions Angie, we am going to:

FIND A NEED and FILL IT FOR SOMEONE
(IN OUR COMMUNITY). Maybe a local shelter or I may ask at my Community Alliance Church where we now have several “new” Canadian families from Persia, Mexico, Peru and China braving their first Canadian winter. There has to be some ways to help them settle in. If an individual we prefer to do this anonymously

    Everyone, have a Happy Christmas!

My Gift to all of you…24 hours a day, 7 days a week via the internet: Among a few things…To receive and give Love.

    “The gift of Love…”

    Come with me
to a third grade classroom….. There is a

nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of
a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and
the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his
heart is going to stop because he cannot
possibly imagine how this has happened. It’s

never happened before, and he knows that when
the boys find out he will never hear the end of
it. When the girls find out, they’ll never speak
to him again as long as he
    lives.

    The boy
believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his
head down and prays this prayer, ‘Dear God, this
is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes

    from now I’m dead
    meat.’

    He looks up
from his prayer and here comes the teacher with
a look in her eyes that says he has been

    discovered.

    As the
teacher is walking toward him, a class mate
named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is

filled with water. Susie trips in front of the
teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water
    in the boy’s
    lap.

    The boy
pretends to be angry, but all the while is
saying to himself, ‘Thank you, Lord! Thank you,
    Lord!’

    Now all of a
sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule,
the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher
rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts
to put on while his pants dry out. All the other

children are on their hands and knees cleaning
up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful.
But as life would have it, the ridicule that
should have been his has been transferred to
    someone else –
    Susie.

    She tries to
help, but they tell her to get out. You’ve done
    enough, you
    klutz!’

    Finally, at
the end of the day, as they are waiting for the
bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers,
‘You did that on purpose, didn’t you?’ Susie
whispers back, ‘I wet my pants once

    too.’

    May God help
us see the opportunities that are always around
    us to do
    good..

    Remember…..Just going to
church doesn’t make you a Christian any more
than standing in your garage makes you a
    car.

    Each and
everyone one of us is going through tough times
right now, but God is getting ready to bless you
in a way that only He can. Keep the

    faith.

    This prayer
is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts
we receive. There is no cost but a lot of
rewards. Let’s continue to pray for one
    another.

    The
    Prayer:

    Father, I ask
You to bless my friends, relatives and those
that I care deeply for, who are reading this
right now. Show them a new revelation of Your
love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to
minister to their spirit at this very moment.
Where there is pain, give them Your peace and
mercy.. Where there is self-doubt, release a

renewed confidence through Your grace. Where
there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs.
Bless their homes, families, finances, their
    goings and their comings.
    Amen.

    Jan-Michael,

Thank you and you’re more than welcome. I do like opening the door for people that are brothers and sisters in Christ. In business, its more about official profile introductions. But, I do try to keep the love flowing via the internet…lol

    Hope everything is well…

    And Merry Christmas to all!
